I called Kate at 12:01 AM on her birthday (October 11th). She didn't answer, but called me back a couple hours later, apologized for being busy and promised to call the following day when she'd have time to wax mundane.

The call never came.

Not that I was expecting it to.

I tried in vain to call her back several times in the month that followed. Finally I had had enough. I broke down, and with the help of some cheap wine, decided I'd leave a three or four minute-long message of me covering a Velvet Underground song.

Of course, after pouring my drunken effort into setting all this up, she answered the phone. Bitch.
