Stray Sheep Poe 3#394 / 2009-10-06

A guy I knew, not me, was introduced to the concept of digital piracy while searching for this cute little sheep. He arrived at a simple webpage containing the screenmate and a few other files, among them a "keygen" for the retail program Winzip. Curiosity led to its download and lo and behold, you type in any name, hit "generate", and boom, a valid registration code for Winzip appears!

Magic!

And so it was that this person, not me, was sent astray, so to speak.

Digitally anyway.

You see, this person, still not me, had long been in the business of duplicating VHS for fun and profit. Not money profit. Trade. Blank cassettes. So it was this person accrued a video library far exceeding that of any other kid in the neighborhood.

Stealing is wrong.
