The Long Goodbye 2#298 / 2009-03-28

Once upon a time, a friend of mine told me to see a movie called Brick. "You'll love it!" he said. "It's very Raymond Chandler, and it takes place in high school which is perfect!"

I hated it.

It wasn't so much noir as bĂȘte noire. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the clever dialog were wasted on the stupidity of, well, high school kids.

By all accounts, Veronica Mars should have been even worse as it was produced for network television, so no cigarettes, no nudity, no swearing, no violence.

But I actually like it. A lot. You win this round, Netflix.

Um, I think it's: You win this round, Tiffany.

Quite right dear. Quite right.
